Dear potential victims!
I have set up this blog to warn everyone about the unreliable and potentially fraudulent website "Simplyelectronics.net" DON'T EVER LET CHEAP PRICES FOOL YOU!!! I searched for the cheapest price on an Olympus digital camera and up came this website. I have bought a lot of things online before and thought nothing of it and happily purchased the camera for what I thought at the time was a bargain price. (If you read on you will understand that I wish I had paid the extra couple of pounds on a reliable website E.G. Amazon.co.uk to avoids weeks of hassle and worry) The delivery notice was between 1-2 working days. Come the 4th working day I received an email telling me my order has been frozen until I had faxed simplyelectronic.net the following information:
Copy of passport/and or driving licence
Front copy of card i paid with
Utility bill (gas/water/electric)
In all my online purchasing years I have NEVER come across a website that has asked this from me. I think you would all agree that this is not common practice so I rung the fraudulent dept of my bank (Natwest) who 2nd my opinion and advised me not to send simplyelectronics.net any of the info they requested. Its like you walking into Boots and going to buy a hairdryer and putting it on the counter only to be asked for a copy of all your personal documents!! RIDICULOUS!!!! Anyway I tried to get through to their customer help line which surprise surprise failed to connect on approximately 37 occasions. So I emailed them requesting that they either send me my camera (which by the way they had already debited my account for!) or refund me the full amount. I had to wait "1 business day" for a reply which basically said they reassure me that this is a safe procedure to fax them all my personal documentation! Again I emailed them repeating my request! (1 business day later!) Finally I thought I could breathe a sigh of relief when I got an email saying that simplyelectronics.net have cancelled my order and will receive a full refund within the minimum of 2-3 business days. 5 Business days later, still no refund.......I emailed them again and this time i got a reply to say my account will be credited by the end of the week. I'm not holding my breath......................................................
